I came across the clicker when doing an outdoors first aid course a few years ago! The instructor was using one as we traversed somewhere on Dartmoor and I became an instant fan. So much so, that I bought two on eBay. One was plastic with a battery – made in China – works great but I never know when the battery will go flat: and the other, shown here, is metal and works with simple gearing inside. This is better: it feels robust and would survive a drop into a puddle.DSC_0657

Big advantage of the clicker is that you can walk, talk and click all at the same time (even a man can do it!) and you can stop and admire the view at any time without having to remember where you are up to in your counting. It fits easily into the hand and weighs next to nothing.

Only cost me a couple of pounds on eBay. I never really did get the beads on a rope and knots in a piece of string which I know others endorse. Besides, knots and beads would not have allowed me to create such a great title for this piece! Happy clicking – its the way forward.
